Varen goes beyond chat. Lens grounds answers in your own documents and, where enabled, the live web — with citations you can inspect. Workspaces keep conversations, files and knowledge together on a node you control, while Varen's SaaS control plane handles access, connectivity and model routing.
Every piece of work lives in a workspace. Choose the kind that fits the job — a free-flowing conversation, an evidence-backed investigation, or a goal that ends in a finished document.
Lens is grounded research, not freeform chat. It reads your own documents first — your corpus is the authority — and reaches out to the live web only to fill the gaps.
Answers carry numbered citations. Each citation links straight to the passage it came from: click it and the source opens, the cited lines highlighted. No black box, no "trust me".
Your workspace content stays on your node. Your documents are indexed and stored where they live. The control plane coordinates authenticated access and routing; hosted inference can receive the question and relevant context when you choose a remote model.
An Outcome is a goal-driven workspace that ends in something you can use. It walks you through the inputs — your income sources, deductions and life events for a Tax Pack; your inspection, contract and settlement details for a Home Purchase Pack — and produces a finished document at the end.
Outcomes are in active development. The modes below are where we're heading first.

Behind every mode sits a library of 69 specialist advisers across 13 domains — from the everyday to the complex. Varen reads your question and routes it to the right expertise automatically. You don't choose an adviser — you just ask.
When a question spans two domains — say, a property purchase that involves both conveyancing and tax implications — Varen can blend two advisers into a single response. Neither perspective gets lost.

Your workspace runs on a node you control. That is where Varen stores your conversations, files, and history — not as workspace content in Varen's database.
Varen does not use your conversations to train its models. When you choose a hosted model, Varen sends that request to the AI service you selected so it can generate an answer.
Your conversations and files remain in your workspace. Sending a request to hosted AI is a separate, deliberate choice for each interaction.
Your node can run on hardware you own or in a cloud account you control. Either way, long-term storage remains separate from Varen's database.

Sarah is a graphic designer. She works from home and picks up freelance projects on the side.
In March, she asks Varen about home office deductions. Varen notes she has a home office and is self-employed. In May, she mentions her freelance ABN income. In June, she asks about a work laptop she bought.
By July, when she sits down to prepare for her tax return, her workspace already holds the picture: sole trader, ABN registered, home office, mixed income, recent capital purchase. She asks "what do I need to pull together for my tax return?" — and gets a tailored checklist, not a generic one.
Her accountant gets a briefing document. No surprises.
Marcus and his partner have found a house they want to make an offer on.
Over two weeks, their Varen workspace becomes their buying team. Calculations on borrowing capacity and LMI thresholds. An explanation of the special conditions in the contract of sale. A pre-purchase inspection checklist tailored to the property's age and construction type. A settlement timeline with key dates.
Every question stays in the same workspace. Every answer builds on what came before. By the time they sit down with a mortgage broker, they already know the right questions to ask.
Your tax questions shouldn't bleed into your home renovation research. Your health conversations shouldn't colour your business planning. By default Varen keeps each workspace distinct — separate context, separate memory, separate history — and you can explicitly link workspaces when you do want them to share retrieved context.
Switch between them freely. Each workspace picks up exactly where you left off, with no confusion carried over unless you choose to link them. The thinking stays clean.
Support for household and group nodes — a single installation shared across multiple people — is coming.
